Letter from the Secretary General

Friends,

On behalf of Northwestern Model United Nations, I am honored to welcome you to the premiere of LAKEMUN this winter from February 26-28 at the Hilton Orrington in Evanston, Illinois.

For over a decade, our organization has admired the professionalism, quality, and creativity put in to each and every conference on the circuit. Witnessing that quality firsthand has built so many wonderful memories, instilling in us a desire to give back. Now, we draw on our years of competitive and staffing experience to present Northwestern’s first-ever collegiate conference.

LAKEMUN I offers three days of substantive debate on the shores of Lake Michigan, where a short train ride into Chicago allows delegates to explore the greatest city in the world. With topics ranging from Australian city planning to governing Westeros, we seek to maintain a high level of competitive caliber while ensuring that every attendee can find something for them. Unexpected curveballs and intricate negotiations will push delegates to reckon with the realities of diplomacy and confront the challenges before them with innovative policy solutions.

To us, Model UN is more than just a club. It is a venue in which people devoted to changing the world come together to sharpen their ability to speak, to write, and to think. It is a community, constantly evolving and expanding with each new committee session. And it is a chance to learn from one another. With those principles as LAKEMUN’s north star, we are committed to uplifting every voice and viewpoint throughout the conference, because that is the point.

Thank you to our partners for lending us their expertise and resources. Thank you to our Secretariat for their leadership. Thank you to our staffers and volunteers for dedicating their time to make this conference possible. And above all, thank you, delegates; you are the reason LAKEMUN exists, and we cannot wait to see you in Evanston.

Till February,

Henry Fleck

Secretary-General, LAKEMUN I
